The Maybelline Glaze Oil Balm has taken social media by storm — everyone’s calling it a dupe for Dior’s famous lip balms. But is it really?
I haven’t owned the Dior balm itself, but I’m familiar with their lipsticks of similar texture — and honestly, they’re quite different. Starting with the packaging: Maybelline’s balm looks nice visually, but once you hold it, it feels very lightweight — almost weightless. The cap sits securely, and inside there’s a sleek metallic bullet.
It smells lightly fruity, though the scent disappears upon application. The texture is soft and balmy, less dense than the Korean lip balms or Dior’s version — more lightweight and sheer. Because of that, the color in the bullet looks darker than it appears on the lips. My shade, 008 Acai Berry, is a blueberry-plum tone reminiscent of Black Honey. It applies evenly, doesn’t settle into lines, and doesn’t bleed. You can easily layer it for a richer tint.
The balm hydrates well, feels comfortable, and leaves lips soft even after removal. Of course, the wear time isn’t long — it won’t survive a meal or a coffee, but it fades evenly without staining.
I genuinely enjoy this balm — the shade is flattering, the texture pleasant. My only complaint is the cheap-feeling packaging, which doesn’t match the otherwise nice formula.
