I honestly haven’t reached for a Max Factor lipstick in what feels like forever — but recently I decided it was time to revisit the brand. I picked up a shade from their classic Colour Elixir Lipstick line, and let me tell you, it reminded me why traditional bullets will never go out of style.
The packaging is simple yet chic: a golden case with a slightly ribbed cap that makes it easy to grip and keeps it from slipping. It feels lightweight but still sturdy, and inside you’ll find the classic angled bullet with a little “X” engraving. At 4 g, it’s a generous amount of product. The lipstick has that subtle, nostalgic fragrance — soft, pleasant, and very “lipstick-y” in the best way.
Formula-wise, it’s creamy and smooth, gliding evenly across the lips. The pointed tip makes outlining the lips super easy without needing a pencil.
My shade, 075 Ruby Tuesday, is a bold red with a blue undertone — flattering, bright, and tooth-whitening. In a single light layer, it looks wearable and natural, but with a full swipe or two it transforms into a striking, statement red. It layers beautifully without patchiness or clumping.
Despite being creamy, it doesn’t feather, doesn’t cling to dryness, and leaves a soft tint behind as it fades. Wear time is around 4 hours before reapplication.
A timeless red in a timeless formula — Max Factor did well with this one!
