Hair oils are a must in my routine — I use them after every wash to soften the ends, reduce frizz, and give that silky smooth finish. But not every oil lives up to expectations. In this year’s ASOS Advent Calendar, I found the Arkive Hybrid Oil Baobab & Jojoba Oil for Hair, and here’s how it performed.
🌷 Packaging & First Impressions
It comes in a lovely pink cubic bottle (50 ml) with a twist-to-close nozzle — practical and stylish. The brand highlights sustainability and ethics: vegan, cruelty-free, and made from recycled plastic. There’s even the founder’s signature printed on the bottle — a nice touch!
💧 Texture & Scent
The oil itself is clear, gel-like, and heavily fragranced — a rich mix of florals and spices that instantly reminded me of oriental perfumes. The fragrance sits high on the ingredients list, which explains its intensity.
The texture feels silicone-heavy but pleasantly dry — no greasy residue left on the hands. It spreads easily through the hair and doesn’t weigh it down or make it sticky.
✨ Effect & Verdict
After application, my hair feels smooth, soft, and manageable — but only until the next wash. There’s no cumulative effect or deeper nourishment. For £14 per 50 ml, I expected a bit more performance.
So while it’s a beautiful product that smells luxurious and looks chic on the shelf, I wouldn’t call it a must-have. There are oils that deliver better long-term results for the same price.

💭 Good for a quick fix, not for lasting care.
