Neutrogena Clear & Defend+ Liquid Exfoliant 7% Aha+Panthenol

The cold season, for me, is the perfect time for peels. I’ve been obsessed with acids for the past 10 years and I’m not about to give them up. For the last couple of years, glycolic acid has been my go-to—it works perfectly for my skin. My most recent favorite with it is the Neutrogena Liquid Peel. Here’s how it saved me from breakouts and how to use it correctly.

Last fall something happened to my skin—it rebelled and broke out in inflamed spots. The worst kind: deep, painful ones that wouldn’t go away with my usual skincare. That’s when I picked up this heavy artillery, and honestly, within a week my skin cleared up. All thanks to glycolic acid—at 7%, combined with citric acid.

It comes in a simple 125 ml transparent bottle with a screw cap. The dispenser is pretty big, so it pours out a lot. The liquid itself is just a bit thicker than water, with a slightly sour scent.

I’ll say right away: sensitive skin will not like this peel—it’s too strong. My skin can be sensitive at times, though luckily less so now, and it actually responded really well to it. I only use it in my evening routine: I apply it with a cotton pad and swipe it over my face and décolleté strictly once. Do it more than once and you’ll regret it =) The peel does cause redness, and the first time there’s a bit of stinging, but over time the skin adjusts.

It feels sticky, but I just layer a cream on top and it’s fine. According to the instructions, you don’t wash it off. In the morning, the skin looks flawless—smooth, radiant, and even. I haven’t been using anything else for a long time—this one is affordable and really works for me. I use it 1–2 times a week, only at night, and only when the sun isn’t strong.
